Actor Eric Dane shared an emotional insight into his life since being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in a recent interview with Diane Sawyer on “Good Morning America.” This interview marks Dane’s first since he revealed his health condition two months ago.

In the preview clip released on June 12, Dane, 52, became visibly emotional while discussing the challenges posed by the neurodegenerative disease affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. “I wake up every day and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening,” he expressed, agreeing with Sawyer’s statement, “It’s not a dream.”

Despite the diagnosis, the star of “Euphoria” remains optimistic about his future. “I don’t think this is the end of my story. I don’t feel like this is the end of me,” he conveyed with determination.

The preview continues with a poignant moment when Sawyer inquires, “Who was your first call?” Although the response was not disclosed in the clip, Dane’s reaction indicated the emotional weight of the question, as he lowered his head, visibly struggling to contain his tears.

Dane announced his diagnosis in a statement to People on April 10, expressing gratitude for the support of his family as they navigate this new chapter. He also mentioned that he was committed to his work, stating, “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week.”

At home, Dane is a father to two daughters, Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13, with his wife Rebecca Gayheart. The couple, who wed in 2004, briefly faced divorce proceedings in 2018, but Gayheart dismissed the divorce just weeks prior to Dane’s ALS announcement. In a recent conversation with E! News, she remarked on their close bond: “We are best of friends. We are really close. We are great co-parents.”

The complete interview with Dane is set to air on June 16, where he is expected to delve deeper into his experiences and feelings since the diagnosis.
