Google is gearing up to launch a new line of accessories called “Pixelsnap” for the Pixel 10, designed to enhance wireless charging capabilities. However, reports suggest that while the Pixel 10 will support Qi2 charging, users may need a special case to include the necessary magnets for alignment.
Android users have long requested a seamless wireless charging experience, ideally featuring MagSafe-style Qi2 technology with integrated magnets. Recent revelations about Google’s Pixelsnap accessories sparked hopes that the Pixel 10 series could fulfill this demand straight out of the box. Unfortunately, recent findings may dampen these expectations.
Historically, Android phones have struggled with the lack of built-in magnets needed for securely aligning Qi2 chargers. While manufacturers like Samsung have opted to sell magnet-equipped cases as a workaround, this approach is less convenient for consumers compared to having the technology integrated into the phones themselves.
Following the announcement of Google’s Pixelsnap plans, Android Headlines reported on the accessories, emphasizing a key detail: the magnets will be included in the phone cases, not in the phones themselves. While this revelation is not unexpected given the past performance of Android Qi2 support, it is disappointing news for users.
Additionally, Android Headlines provided insights into Google’s broader accessory strategy for the Pixel 10. Alongside Pixelsnap offerings, a variety of third-party “Made for Google” options will also be available, many of which will support Qi2 charging and be sold through the Google Store.
The upcoming Pixelsnap Charger is reportedly designed to resemble Apple’s MagSafe Charger, while the Pixelsnap Charger with Stand will echo the former Pixel Stand 2. However, no images of these products have yet been released. Lastly, Google is also purportedly developing a dual-port USB-C charger with a 45W output, though it’s unclear whether the Pixel 10 will be compatible with such rapid charging capabilities.
