In a heartfelt revelation, Eric Dane has opened up about his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis, marking a significant moment in his health journey. The star of Euphoria became visibly emotional during a preview for an upcoming interview with Diane Sawyer, which will air on Monday’s episode of Good Morning America. In the sneak peek, Dane candidly expressed, “I wake up every day and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening. It’s not a dream.”
Despite the challenges posed by his condition, Dane remains hopeful about his future. After recently resuming work on Euphoria, he stated, “I don’t think this is the end of my story. I don’t feel like this is the end of me.”
In April, the Grey’s Anatomy actor disclosed his health status to People, saying, “I have been diagnosed with ALS.” He also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue acting, adding, “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, ALS is described as “a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord,” resulting in a progressive loss of muscle control.
Euphoria’s Season 3 is set to begin production in early February 2025, following delays in the series’ continuation. Dane plays the character Cal Jacobs, the father of Nate Jacobs, portrayed by Jacob Elordi. He will be joined by several new cast members in Season 3, including Kadeem Hardison, musician Rosalia, former NFL star Marshawn Lynch, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Priscilla Delgado, James Landry Hébert, and Anna Van Patten in significant guest roles.
