More than 70 individuals across New England reported witnessing a spectacular fireball illuminate the night sky early Wednesday, as documented by the American Meteor Society (AMS). The phenomenon, which occurred around 2:26 a.m., was particularly striking in Connecticut, where witnesses described the brilliant flash as bright enough to resemble daytime.

Mark K., hailing from Northford, shared that the meteor passed directly above him before culminating in a loud explosion. Jeffrey C., a resident of Meriden, recounted the fireball’s breathtaking display of blue and green hues, accompanied by a glowing plasma tail and a lingering smoky trail. “It was the most outstanding fireball I have ever witnessed in my 55 years,” he remarked, adding that approximately thirty seconds after it vanished, he felt and heard a rumble.

The AMS confirmed that this extraordinary event took place on June 25, 2025, at 2:26 a.m., and was visible not only in Connecticut but also in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and surrounding areas. Many observers noted its intense brightness and the duration of several seconds.

“I was lying awake in bed, and I just see a flash outside my window unlike anything I’ve ever seen before,” reported Carson L. from Easton. “It was a light bluish flash. I knew almost instantly that it was a meteor without having studied or witnessed any showers before.”
