Norwegian Crown Princess’s Son Faces Sexual Assault and Rape Charges

Marius Borg Hoiby, the 28-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, has been charged with multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, and bodily harm following an extensive ten-month investigation. This legal action comes on the heels of scrutiny stemming from allegations involving a significant number of victims, described by authorities as a “double digit” figure.

Hoiby was arrested several times in 2024 amid these serious allegations. According to Oslo Police Attorney Andreas Kruszewski, the charges include one instance of rape involving intercourse, two counts of rape without intercourse, four cases of sexual assault, and two instances of bodily harm.

Kruszewski confirmed at a recent press conference, “I cannot go into further detail about the number of victims in the case beyond confirming that it is a double-digit number.” The evidence collected by authorities includes text messages, police searches, and witness statements.

Defense attorney Petar Sekulic stated in an email to The Associated Press that Hoiby is “taking the accusations very seriously, but doesn’t acknowledge any wrongdoing in most of the cases — especially the cases regarding sexual abuse and violence.”

Marius Hoiby, the eldest child of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship, has been a public figure since childhood, once endearingly referred to as “Little Marius.” Despite growing up in royal privilege, he lacks a formal title or public role within the monarchy. Last year, following initial allegations of violence, Hoiby admitted to committing acts of aggression against his partner while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, discussing his struggles with mental health and long-term substance abuse issues.
