Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers’ Conference (WWDC) is currently underway, where the tech giant unveiled major updates to iOS 26, particularly for Apple CarPlay users.

Among the enhancements coming to Apple CarPlay, which is set to launch this fall, are several exciting features.

1. **Revamped CarPlay Design**
The fresh design of iOS 26 will also be reflected in CarPlay, providing a unified and visually appealing experience for users. This update will include icons that are optimized for both light and dark modes, as well as a more streamlined notification design that allows for clear visibility of driving directions on the screen.

2. **Introduction of Widgets**
CarPlay will now support widgets, enabling users to quickly access essential information such as weather updates, reminders, and smart home controls. Furthermore, live activities, including the status of a friend’s flight, will be visible on the CarPlay screen while en route to pick them up at the airport.

3. **Expansion of Apple CarPlay Ultra**
Recently, Apple introduced Apple CarPlay Ultra, which enhances the platform’s capabilities by integrating functionality into both the vehicle’s touchscreen and dashboard. “It builds on the capabilities of CarPlay and provides the ultimate in-car experience by deeply integrating with the vehicle to deliver the best of iPhone and the best of the car,” Apple stated in a news release.

Currently, this advanced feature is available exclusively in new Aston Martin vehicles in the US and Canada. However, today’s announcements at WWDC indicate that Apple is collaborating with additional automakers for broader implementation. Top Gear reports that companies like Hyundai, Kia, Ford, and Volvo are in the process of incorporating CarPlay Ultra into their vehicle models.
