Aubrey Anderson-Emmons is celebrating Pride Month with a heartfelt announcement. The former “Modern Family” actress, known for her role as Lily Tucker-Pritchett, shared that she is bisexual in a social media video that pays tribute to her character.
In a clip posted on Threads on June 16, Anderson-Emmons is seen lip-syncing to a memorable scene from the ABC sitcom. In that moment, her character tells her television father, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Sofía Vergara that she’s gay.
Wearing sunglasses, she laughs as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett (played by Vergara) tells young Lily, “You are Vietnamese,” to which Anderson-Emmons responds, “No, I’m not, I’m gay, I’m gay!” Mitchell Pritchett (Ferguson) then chimes in, stating, “Honey, no, you’re not gay. You are just confused!”
Beneath the video, she proudly added text stating, “people keep joking so much abt [sic] me being gay when I literally am (I’m bi).” Her caption read, “happy pride month to all and to all a goodnight hehehe #modernfamily #lily #pridemonth #bi #pride🌈.”
Fans responded enthusiastically in the comments, expressing their support and noting how proud her on-screen fathers—Mitchell and Cam—would be. One fan commented, “Omgggg cam and mitch would be so happy 😭🎀💅🏻” while another added, “LMFAOOOO!!! Mitch and Cam are gonna be so proud!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🌈🌈🌈🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈.”
Mitchell and Cam’s marriage on the show is recognized as one of television’s most celebrated same-sex unions, earning two GLAAD Media Awards during its 11-season run. Anderson-Emmons joined “Modern Family” as the adopted daughter of Mitchell and Cam in 2011, taking over the role of Lily from twin actresses Ella and Jaden Hiller.
The character of Lily was central to proposed plans for a spinoff series that would have followed the family after moving from Los Angeles to Missouri, but the project was ultimately shelved. Stonestreet, who played Cam, remarked in 2024, “I don’t think it’s potential anymore. They had their chance. Chris Lloyd and a couple of the writers wrote a really great script that spun Jesse and I off in our life in Missouri, and they said, ‘No.’”
Anderson-Emmons recently celebrated her milestone 18th birthday on June 6 and is now pursuing a music career under the pseudonym Frances Anderson. She released her first single, “Telephones and Traffic,” last month, and her next song, “Don’t Forget Me,” is set to drop on June 27. Additionally, she appeared in a short film titled “Tailwinds,” which focuses on a young girl’s love of aviation.
