David Hekili Kenui Bell, known for his recent role in the live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch,” has sadly passed away. The news was shared by his sister, Jalene Kanani Bell, in an emotional post on Facebook.
“It is with a heavy heart I share that my sweet, generous, talented, funny, brilliant and handsome little brother David H. K. Bell will spend today in the company of our Heavenly Father,” she wrote on June 15.
Jalene expressed her struggle to find the right words to convey the joy her brother brought to those around him, noting that fate intervened on Father’s Day, leading her to acknowledge his legacy. She revealed that her brother’s unexpected passing occurred just two weeks after he celebrated the release of the live-action movie with family by treating them to a screening.
“He was and will remain a bright and shining star,” she added, speaking fondly of his recent achievement. “He planned ahead and purchased the best seats in the house for us all to go together to opening night in Kapolei just two short weeks ago.”
In the new film, Bell portrayed the character known as the “Big Hawaiian Dude.” His representative, Lashauna Downie, expressed her shock upon learning of Bell’s death through social media.
“This is heartbreaking & sad. He was one of my best talents and embodied the true meaning of aloha…a gentle giant,” Downie told TMZ.
The cause of Bell’s death has yet to be disclosed.
In addition to his role in “Lilo & Stitch,” Bell appeared in notable episodes of television series such as “Magnum P.I.” and “Hawaii Five-0.” He played Manu Salani in two episodes of “Magnum P.I.” in 2018 and 2019, and also appeared as Isaac in the long-running series “Hawaii Five-0” in 2014.
Bell’s passing comes nearly a year after the death of Taylor Wily, who was also featured in both series. Wily, who played Kamekona Tupuola, died on June 20, 2024, at the age of 56.
Ending her tribute to her brother, Jalene reflected on their last moments together, emphasizing the importance of cherishing loved ones. “Blessed by this and all the big and small moments, I will keep our memories alive,” she concluded.
