FORT BRAGG, CALIFORNIA — In the quiet, mist-covered forests of Northern California, under the towering redwoods of Hendy Woods State Park, a love story was written not just in ink, but in memory, heartache, and divine grace. Author Robert Anderson—a retired man from Fort Bragg battling the early stages of dementia—has published what may be his most soul-baring work yet: My Fantasy Princess, a Christian romantic fantasy rooted in real-life experiences, spiritual revelation, and bittersweet memory.

Set against the politically charged backdrop of 1980s Philippines during the Marcos martial law era, Anderson’s memoir-turned-novel reveals a hidden love affair with a high-society Filipina who was briefly exiled in California for her safety. “Lee,” as she is called in the book, is described as part-princess, part-runaway soul in search of safety and connection—only to find both in the arms of a man twice her age, with a heart wide enough to hold both heaven and heartbreak.

A Month of Miracles and Melancholy

Anderson’s account reads like a cinematic journey—California coastlines, Yosemite’s waterfalls, Disneyland dreams, and nights under the stars. But it’s in the hush of the redwood groves where the emotional crescendo hits hardest. “We prayed together like three of us were there—me, her, and Jesus,” Anderson writes, remembering their tearful goodbye at Oakland Airport. “We knew this would be our last night on Earth together.”

Lee, ever mysterious, disappears into the care of a bodyguard sent by her godfather. She leaves behind only a note and—years later—an unsigned letter with money and a message that’s equally heartwarming and haunting: “Thank you for being my granddaughter’s playmate.”

A Love Cloaked in Forgiveness

Anderson doesn’t shy away from the moral and spiritual complexity of their affair. “Wrong as it was in so many ways,” he writes, “we both knew from the beginning there was only a short time together. But things done in true love cover a lot of sin.” The book’s emotional core rests in the redemption he seeks—not just from God, but from himself. My Fantasy Princess becomes more than a romantic memoir; it’s a prayer for grace wrapped in pages of longing and memory.

Now in his golden years, Anderson reflects with tenderness and regret. “She was too perfect to be real,” he muses. “But if Lee was ever real—and I believe she was—then my spirit will cry for joy if she ever shows her granddaughter those Kodachrome pictures from Juan Creek Beach.”

Writing Against Time

Diagnosed with early-stage dementia, Anderson says the book was a race against memory loss. “I wanted to document this while I still could,” he shares. “Before her face fades. Before the prayer in the redwoods gets quiet.” And while publishing My Fantasy Princess may raise concerns about Lee’s privacy, Anderson has protected her identity at every turn—leaving her last name, family details, and even her fate a mystery.

An Invitation to Healing

Anderson’s hope is that readers take away more than a love story. “I want people to find the same forgiveness I found,” he says. “From God, from Lee, and maybe even from themselves.”

In a world hungry for both romance and redemption, My Fantasy Princess delivers both—wrapped in moonlit beaches, tearful prayers, and one unforgettable goodbye.
