A significant number of Microsoft 365 users have reported issues with Outlook and Teams, leading to widespread frustration and confusion. Social media platform X has seen a surge of posts from users grappling with disruptions to these popular applications.

‘Why is this happening, please, when I [use] my android Outlook?’ one user inquired, sharing a video showing a blank screen while attempting to access the email app on Monday evening. Another user lamented, ‘OMFG I hate Microsoft Word!!!! Has it always sucked this bad?’

Concerns were also raised about performance, with one user noting, ‘Well that’s new…Outlook had a memory leak or something – got up to about 5Gb of RAM before I task-killed it,’ referring to an unclear error message about high memory consumption.

Downdetector reported that complaints regarding Microsoft 365 peaked around 6:30 PM, with over 1,000 incidents logged. Of these complaints, 55% related to Outlook, while 23% were issues with logging in, and 22% addressed general website problems.

Microsoft 365 has acknowledged the outages, stating in a service status update: ‘We’re having issues, but we’re working on it.’ The company specifically highlighted that Teams was down, marking it with a red ‘x’ in their status indicators and noting that users may encounter intermittent crashes in the Microsoft Teams desktop application.

In their statement, Microsoft mentioned, ‘We’ve initiated the deployment of the new build version containing our fix, and anticipate it will complete by our next scheduled update on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 6:00 PM UTC, remediating impact for all users.’ Despite users’ complaints about the email service, the company confirmed that Outlook ‘is up and running.’

Additionally, the Microsoft 365 team had released a potential workaround for Outlook crashes on Friday, providing an updated online document on Monday morning, as complaints about Outlook surged. ‘When you open or start a new email, classic Outlook crashes. This issue occurs because Outlook cannot open the Forms Library,’ they explained, specifying that the problem may affect users on virtual desktop infrastructures (VDI).

The issue has been prioritized for further investigation, with the company promising to provide updates as they become available. The support team also recommended a quick fix by creating a FORMS2 folder, detailing step-by-step instructions for users to implement it.
