New Free Steam Game Leaves Users Confused

Steam has created confusion among users after making a significant game available for free for 24 hours. While this may seem like a remarkable opportunity, the process has turned out to be complicated and has left many users frustrated.

Recently, Steam users discovered that Hitman: World of Assassination was made free for a 24-hour period. At first glance, this appeared to be an excellent deal, as IO Interactive had bundled its three recent Hitman games into Hitman: World of Assassination. However, users soon realized that this was not as straightforward as it seemed.

Upon visiting the Steam page, users found four versions available for purchase, including a VR variant and a separate starter pack. The only free offering turned out to be a single level from Hitman (2016)—specifically, the Sapienza level, where Agent 47 is tasked with eliminating a bioweapon creator in Italy. While this level is well-crafted and enjoyable, it does not encompass all three games and is more akin to a demo than a full game experience.

Compounding the confusion, users found themselves required to download 70GB, the combined size of all three Hitman titles. However, this massive download only provides access to the single Sapienza level. To access the rest of the content, users must purchase upgrades, leaving many feeling baffled by the rollout strategy for the Hitman series.

This situation has sparked frustration among fans, who have taken to social media to express their bewilderment over IO Interactive’s approach. Many hope that similar confusing practices will not be applied to their upcoming title, Project 007.

One user commented on social media, “This is the most confusing process I’ve ever redeemed, but free is free, whatever I get out of it.” Others echoed sentiments of disbelief over the complicated purchasing system, questioning how such a convoluted model could be in place. The feedback highlights the mixed reception of this promotion and the complicated nature of how the Hitman franchises are presented on the platform.
