Peter Sohn, known for directing ‘Elemental’ and ‘The Good Dinosaur’, has been chosen to helm ‘Incredibles 3’. The screenplay for the animated superhero film is being penned by Brad Bird, who wrote and directed the prior two installments. Bird will also produce the film alongside Dana Murray, known for her work on ‘Soul’.
The series follows Bob and Helen Parr, voiced by Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter, who are more popularly recognized as Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. The couple attempts to lead a normal suburban life while concealing their superpowered identities alongside their three children: Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dashiell ‘Dash’ (Spencer Fox), and Jack Jack, who each possess special abilities. Samuel L. Jackson lends his voice to Frozone, Mr. Incredible’s friend and fellow superhero.
Sohn’s history with Bird includes mentorship, and he has participated in every animated project directed by Bird, including ‘The Incredibles’ (2004) and its sequel, ‘Incredibles 2’ (2018). He was specifically selected by Bird and Pixar’s chief creative officer, Pete Docter, to continue the legacy of ‘The Incredibles’. A seasoned Pixar veteran, Sohn has also provided voice work for various characters in films such as ‘Ratatouille’, ‘Monsters University’, and ‘Lightyear’. His latest directorial effort, ‘Elemental’, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature last year.
Disney announced the third film during the D23 Expo in August 2024, confirming Bird’s involvement in its development. The first two ‘Incredibles’ films collectively earned $1.8 billion at the box office, with a 14-year delay between their releases.
