A reporter from an Australian news outlet sustained injuries from a rubber bullet while covering immigration protests that took place on Sunday in downtown Los Angeles.
Lauren Tomasi, working for 9 News Australia, was broadcasting live when she was struck by the projectile. Footage from the segment captured her reaction as she cried out in pain and clutched her leg, following a shot fired by an officer directly behind her. Notably, Tomasi appeared to be without protective gear at the time of the incident.
Fortunately, 9 News reported that she was left “sore but otherwise unharmed.” The news organization confirmed that both Tomasi and her camera operator are safe and will continue with their important work in reporting such events. A statement from the station emphasized the risks journalists face in such volatile situations, highlighting the essential role they play in delivering crucial information to the public.
