Sabrina Carpenter’s latest single, “Manchild,” has made a striking debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This marks her second chart-topping hit and her first song to enter the chart directly at the top position. Her previous hit, “Please Please Please,” spent one week at the summit after climbing from the No. 2 spot back in June 2024.

“Manchild” not only highlights Carpenter’s return to the top of the charts but also serves as the lead single from her upcoming album, Man’s Best Friend, which is slated for release on August 29. She expressed her excitement about the new album on Instagram, stating, “i can’t wait for it to be yours x” on June 11. This album will arrive just over a year since her last project, Short n’ Sweet, which came out on August 23, 2024.

From the Short n’ Sweet album, Carpenter achieved her first three top 10 hits on the Hot 100, with “Please Please Please” being followed by “Espresso,” which peaked at No. 3, and “Taste,” which reached No. 2. With these three tracks appearing in the top five simultaneously upon the release of “Taste,” Carpenter became only the second artist in history to achieve this milestone, a feat shared only with The Beatles.

In addition to these accomplishments, Carpenter stands out as the only female artist with multiple No. 1 singles on the Hot 100 since the rise of “Please Please Please.” She is also notably the only woman to hold a chart-topping position with a nonseasonal song without any billed collaborators during this time.

“Manchild,” released through Island Records and being promoted by Republic Records, is the 1,182nd No. 1 in the 66-year history of the Hot 100 and the 85th track to debut at the top. Moreover, it marks the first No. 1 debut for Island Records. Carpenter collaborated with Jack Antonoff to co-produce the song and co-wrote it alongside Antonoff and Amy Allen, who also contributed to “Please Please Please” which Antonoff produced.
