Satechi has unveiled a new SSD enclosure featuring a sleek aluminum design that aligns perfectly with the aesthetic of Apple’s Mac Mini M4. The enclosure is designed to be slightly thinner, allowing it to either sit on top of the compact desktop or function as a stylish stand. It comes with a braided USB-C cable, making it compatible with any device that supports external storage.
The USB4 Slim NVMe SSD Enclosure, priced at $119.99, is a step up from Satechi’s previously released Mac Mini M4 Stand & Hub, which launched last January at $99.99. While both products enable storage expansion for the Mac Mini M4 using an SSD, the Stand & Hub includes additional features like extra USB ports and an SD card reader, but the new enclosure provides significantly faster transfer speeds.
With a simple twist, the bottom of the enclosure can be removed without the need for any tools, revealing a slot for the SSD and a compartment for the included USB-C cable. The enclosure supports NVMe SSDs in sizes 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280, accommodating capacities ranging from 1TB to 8TB. The Satechi Stand & Hub offers transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps, whereas the new USB4 Slim NVMe SSD Enclosure achieves speeds of up to 40Gbps, provided the connected device also supports USB4. For devices lacking USB4 capability, the enclosure remains backward compatible, albeit with reduced transfer speeds.
Additionally, the minimalist design features built-in thermal pads and cooling vents to ensure optimal performance without the risk of thermal throttling.
