Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff re-create iconic moment to celebrate her historic masters purchase

Taylor Swift is reliving a significant milestone of her “Reputation” era, now that she has successfully regained ownership of her master recordings. On May 30, she shared the exciting news in a letter posted on her website, announcing that after re-recording four of her albums, known as “Taylor’s Version,” she has secured all her master recordings, including her debut self-titled album from 2006 and the 2017 release, “Reputation.”

To celebrate this achievement, her longtime friend and collaborator, Jack Antonoff, posted a video on X on the evening of May 30. The clip features the duo enjoying a “guilt free” listening party of “Reputation.” They sang along to the album’s ninth track, “Getaway Car,” while reminiscencing a memorable moment from Swift’s 2020 documentary, “Miss Americana,” where the pair originally penned the song. In a playful moment, Swift began the video holding her cat, Meredith, before placing her down to continue singing with Antonoff, who erupted in cheers as the video concluded. Antonoff captioned the post, “rep forever guilt free listening!”

In her May 30 letter, Swift also addressed whether she plans to re-release the remainder of her first six albums to complete her re-recording project, including “Reputation.” “What about Rep TV? Full transparency: I haven’t even re-recorded a quarter of it,” she wrote, adding that the album holds a unique significance to her life at that time. Swift noted that she often found herself struggling to recreate it, stating, “To be perfectly honest, it’s the one album in those first 6 that I thought couldn’t be improved upon by redoing it. Not the music, or the photos, or the videos. So I kept putting it off.”

Nonetheless, she revealed, “I’ve already completely re-recorded my entire debut album, and I really love how it sounds now.” Fans remain curious about the possibility of hearing “Taylor’s Version” of her earlier albums or the vault tracks; however, Swift clarified that if it were to happen, “it won’t be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have. It will just be a celebration now.”

Antonoff, who has collaborated with Swift on multiple projects since 2014’s “1989,” has played a vital role in helping shape her music. Their partnership continued with albums like “Reputation,” “Lover,” “Folklore,” “Evermore,” “Midnights,” and several songs from her most recent release, “The Tortured Poets Department.” During an October 2023 interview on “Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist,” Antonoff spoke about the depth of both their friendship and professional relationship, emphasizing why they create so well together. “That relationship has gone on and on and on and I think we’ve just pushed each other endlessly,” he remarked. “I could quantify our relationship in very reductive ways about the things we agree on, the sounds we like, but the truth is, we’ve just grown together. She’s put an amazing amount of belief in me.”
